Destinee and Paris - True Love

Oh man, this is like the worst song ever.

Which is why I’m not listening to it, obviously.

I feel like Ke$ha’s entire career was maybe an avante-garde performance art piece about a girl who needed to take a shower.

By the time the Blow video was released the arc had concluded, the girl having finally taken the time to clean her hair. And now the piece is done, and her career, actually a carefully-staged act, is over.

Zac Poor - Say Ya!

wow a lot of my music is categorized into that whoops

Mm, mine too.

Also, I was browsing the article, which said, “René Symonds states that ‘the iPod shuffle generation will not be limited to one genre and wants a return to authenticity after years of manufactured pop.’”

And then…

LMNT - Juliet

This song is literally the peak of early-2000s chorus writing.

“I think,

You’re fine.

You really blow my mind.

Maybe,

Someday,

You and me could run away.”

Shark in the Water (VV Brown Cover) - Bethpage High School Show Choir

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how amazing this is?

Also, if you’re not familiar with the original, go look up VV Brown immediately.

Immediately.

So I was bored by the Edge of Glory video.

But not by the fact that it was simplistic. I loved that aspect of it. If reports are correct that there was a whole mermaid-surgery-suicide plot to the original plan for the video, that’s another story, but I think in concept, just Gaga on a fire escape in New York is beautiful and just what the song needed.

What I was bored with and slightly frustrated by was how she was dressed. The Versace piece that she wore was beautiful in its own right, I’m sure, but it was a big sore in what is otherwise a wonderfully minimalist treatment. It was so complex and flashy and skimpy that I was distracted by it. I especially wish that it hadn’t sexualized the video so much, because I feel like this song would have been a really good chance to show an audience outside of her fanbase that she’s popular for more than her gimmicks.

She and other people have said in the past that, while she shows off a lot of skin, she doesn’t portray herself as a sex symbol, because it’s not always in a conventionally sexy way. I can’t help but feel like she did just that in this video.

But otherwise no complaints. Beautiful concept, excellent camerawork. Just the wardrobe choice….

Agnes - Release Me

The Swedes even do generic dance-pop better.

vageenadavis replied to your video: Nicole Scherzinger - Right There This song can’t…

I love your appreciation of pop music. I also like this song. I need this in my life.

I appreciate your appreciation of my appreciation. I feel like pop has a really bad reputation—and goodness knows there’s a lot of really truly terrible pop music out there—but I feel like there’s a lot of good stuff too, if you know where to find it.

I guess my problem is that I am and always have been completely addicted to pop, but I have a lower and lower tolerance for bullshit artists, so I search out only the worthy songs.

Cheryl Cole - Parachute

So I know it’s not a Saturday, but I just remembered how sexy this song is. It’s very sexy.

Also, the video is beautifully shot.

Zac Poor - Radio

This is exactly what pop music needs, seriously. A guy with actual vocal talent not singing about smut to an electropop beat. Don’t get me wrong, I love electropop probably more than the next guy, but cut that Enrique Iglesias shit out.

But for some reason iTunes removed his EP before I got a chance to buy it. :(
